Services

Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual or bi-annual physical examinations. Dogs and cats age much faster than we do, and thorough check-ups and preventive care can help avoid serious health problems. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best:

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services:  Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs.

Surgical Services:  Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures. Some surgeries such as orthopedics are referred to board certified surgeons specializing in these types of procedures.

Anesthesia:  We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. Using the most modern equipment, the patient's vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures.

Internal medicine consults:  At Herndon Animal Medical Center we can diagnose and treat many illnesses, however; for more involved cases we consult with and refer to internal medicine specialists who perform more in-depth diagnostics, ultrasounds, and endoscopic procedures to help us with the optimal long-term management of complicated cases.

Radiology Services:  Our on-site X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders.

Electrocardiography Services:  We provide ECG services on-site as well as referral consultations to cardiology specialists for echocardiograms who provide comprehensive recommendations to assist us with long-term management of cardiac disease.

Dentistry:  Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, diagnostic X-rays, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery.

Laboratory:  Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations.

Permanent identification: As collars and identification tags can be lost or removed, we recommend and offer microchip identification. In the event your pet is lost, this is the best way for shelters and humane societies to ensure your pet is returned to you. Microchip identification placement can be performed during routine visits or in conjunction with routine sedated procedures such as spaying, neutering, or teeth cleaning.

Pharmacy:  We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets.

Individualized Heartworm, Flea, and Tick Control ProgramsWe develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas in your house, in your yard and on your pet. As tick bourne diseases are on the rise in both pets and humans and often difficult to detect, we feel prevention is of the utmost importance in both dogs and cats.

Dietary Counseling:  We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance. Specialized prescription diets are available at our practice. Additionally, we consult with and refer to nutrition specialists to help those pets needing targeted nutritional management for particular diseases and weight-loss.

Behavioral Counseling:  We can provide advice regarding the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression.

Bathing: Therapeutic bathing services are available. If you are in need of a groomer you may contact our office for a referral.

Emergency Care:  If you are having a patient emergency during normal hospital business hours please call our office for instructions.
